Abducted Couple in Pyongyang Have 3 Children

TOKYO — Yasushi Chimura and Fukie Hamamoto, two of the Japanese abducted by North Korean agents, are married and living in Pyongyang and have two boys and a girl, sources familiar with the couple said Tuesday.

The two went missing in Obama in Fukui Prefecture on the Sea of Japan coast on July 7, 1978 after they had exchanged engagement gifts in a traditional ceremony. They were both 23 when they went missing and are among 11 Japanese nationals abducted to North Korea.

According to the sources, their daughter is 21, their elder son 18 and younger son 15. Chimura works as a researcher at a research center in Pyongyang and Fukie is a housewife, the sources said.

Kaoru Hasuike, who went missing on July 31, 1978, in Niigata Prefecture's Kashiwazaki at the age of 20, also works at the same research center and Yukiko Okudo, who went missing at age 22 along with Hasuike, is also a housewife, according to the sources. (Kyodo News)
