The excited crowd continued to cheer as Shirley gave the microphone to Dayish who extended his light grey cowboy hat to the crowd and spoke in Navajo as he introduced himself.

"Who wants to go back to the chairman way of administration?" Dayish said as the crowd cheered. "Power to the people!"

Dayish spoke mostly in Navajo about addressing the concerns of the Navajo people in several areas such as land and livestock issues and improving their way of life.

"We want to move forward and have progressive thinking," Dayish said. "The real work begins now. We are going to hit the ground running, and we are going to embrace change."

Dayish ended his speech by thanking his immediate and extended family members.
Later, at the Shirley-Dayish celebration at nearby Nakai Hall, the Blue Diamond Band of Shiprock entertained the crowd.

"We are just very happy," Shirley said to the crowd of Shirley-Dayish supporters. "In 1998, that was the first time I ran (for president). I came close, we started late, this time we started early."
