Sudanese Opposition Political Parties and Mashakos Understanding
The Sudanese opposition political forces, parties, civil society organizations, and national figures signed at the Umma party headquarters in Um Durman a document concerning the "Mashakos understanding protocol" expressing support for it, while the People's Congress party led by Hassan al-Turabi expressed reservations on certain items in the document.
The document which will be submitted to IGAD's secretariat which supervises the Mashakos negotiations in Kenya and Mashakos protocol between the Sudanese government and the Southern rebels is considered the first beginning and an appreciated efforts to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in Sudan.
