A Distress Call To All

This is a distress call to the government, non-governmental organisations, churches, businesspeople and all good Samaritans in this nation.

There is an area that lies between Lupane and Nkayi business centres in the Matabeleland North province where the food situation is pathetic. People here survive on roots and wild fruits because there is virtually nothing to eat.

The main sufferers are children and the aged. There is nothing edible to buy. People are so frail that one wonders whether they will be able to work on their fields even if the rains do come this year.

Most of them have sold their cattle - their only means of survival - for as little as 6,000 ZWD* per beast, with the hope of buying food but to no avail. Others have slaughtered their animals for food.

Please if there is someone out there with a good heart, help these people because they may not live to see what the next season has for us. The areas that are hard hit are Kheswa, Jibajiba, Ndwane, Janke and Magazi.

Hungry Sibanda, Lupane.
* 1 Zimbabwe Dollar = less than 2 Cents in Euros or U.S. Dollars, so the cattle are being sold for less than 108 Euros or U.S. Dollars, per head.
