The Federal agencies already have been reprimanded by the Federal Judge for destroying documents and other evidence after the lawsuit was filed. An independent accounting firm determined that at least $10 billion is known to be unaccounted for and owed to Native families, and estimates say the final amount owed could be as high as $30-40 billion.

(This is one of the reasons Native families and tribes are so poor. Lease monies were supposed to be collected to benefit the tribes and Native families, but they never received their monies.)

I’m voting for the least of three evils on gaming, Proposition 202, the 17-tribe initiative. But I’m outraged at voting on any tribal gaming propositions.

I understand the tribes’ need to use casino gambling to build infrastructure, develop scholarships, and generally alleviate Third World conditions on reservations.

However, tribal leadership opened up a Pandora’s Box by making the first gaming compacts with any state. A compact sets a dangerous precedent for tribes that already have had millions of acres of land stolen from them.
