Now, it has been decided that the European Union will take over from the U.N. An E.U. Police Mission (EUPM) is now being prepared and will take effect a year from now. Had the E.U. been properly prepared, it could have acted much sooner and a proper transition would have left the United States without a pressure point. .

Nevertheless, these preparations may also assist the European Union in developing its own military coordination as an alternative to European dependence upon NATO which is greatly dominated by the United States.

The E.U. has been threatened with possible invasion by the United States, should any U.S. military personnel be tried for war crimes before the International Criminal Court in The Hague.

The Netherlands is particularly concerned by such blatant intimidation and is trying to persuade the United States Congress not to pass that part of the American Servicemembers’ Protection Act, which calls for the President “to use all means necessary and appropriate to bring about the release” of any U.S. military personnel held by the ICC.

There is little doubt that should the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives approve the proposed legislation, the current President would sign it into law.
