FORMER MEMBER OF MST. Santo V. Jaro has done well forhimself since he and 43 families occupied a large unproductive farm owned by
an elderly woman.
By his own estimates, Jaro is a rare case. Behind him is
his old house, where he slept with his wife and three children. Now, a three bedroom, modern home sits 10 feet away as a testament to his success.
But Jaro's neighbors, after five years working their own free land - and with access to cheap government investment capital - still live in homes like this one in the photograph, currently a resting perch for a parrot and feed sheed.
