Grassroots Leadership
Student groups, like the Model UN Clubs of Hartford, Connecticut, have gone to the AAM® web site (www.landmines.org), selected a minefield or survivor assistance project based on the site’s photos, local stories, and country profiles, and have raised the necessary funds required to accomplish the project from start to finish.
Hartford students raised over $6,000 to clear mine affected land in Velika Kladusa, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Once clearance in their field is complete, essential work to restore infrastructure in the area can begin in the area, ultimately paving the way to regional economic recovery.
