The business sector was asked to make a contribution; an NGO forum was created; a gender analysis was compiled and youth were an integral part of the discussions to solve the water crisis.

After the 2nd World Water Forum, entitled, "From Vision to Action", various groups kept up their goals and initiatives to further the action and start averting the impending crisis.

Japan has decided to host the 3rd World Water Forum and once again include a greater number of people.

To make this a realistic goal, they decided to plan a "Kick-off" meeting to outline their goals and aspirations.
During the "Kick-off" meeting itself, delegates presented plans for a worldwide public discussion platform on various topics involving water. Everyone is invited to join.

The Virtual Water Forum was presented and opened at the "Kick-off" meeting and it can be found on their website:

The other initiative taken is the Water Voice project. An individual volunteer can enrol as a "Water Voice" to gather the voices of those people living in marginalized conditions with no access to modern technology. The volunteers listen to these people and will bring their voice forth at the 3rd World Water Forum.
At the 3rd World Water Forum
"Kick off" meeting, a critical look was aimed at the 2nd World Water Forum to review the various aspects that the participants thought were lacking at the 2nd World Water Forum .

The organizers identified 15 different themes that were worked out at the "Kick-off" meeting and will be included in the 3rd World Water Forum Agenda.

These themes range from Water for Food to Small Island States and covered such points as education, the role NGO’s can play concerning the water crisis and the role gender plays in this crucial topic.
