In another incident, Israeli troops shelled the house of the Abu Al-Khayr family. Three family members were injured but no ambulance could reach the place. According to Dr. Jawad Al-Tibi, who gave them first aid, one of the injured was a 16-year-old boy who was hit in his chest, close to the heart. "I did not have sufficient equipment to treat them. I called the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, and the media, to try to intervene so the people could be transferred to hospital. But the shooting and shelling was so heavy that
no-one could move. The ambulance did not reach us until two hours later".
The violent Israeli operation lasted until 4.30 a.m.; during those four and half hours, the Israeli army arrested one person and claimed to find a bag of explosives. To achieve this they also killed twelve innocent Palestinians.
The thirteenth victim in Gaza this morning was killed when Israeli soldiers attacked the Nasser hospital in Khan Younis at 8 a.m. From a nearby military camp Israeli soldiers opened heavy fire at the hospital killing Mohammed Shalloleh (23), who was at the hospital to get news about the victims of the attack earlier the same morning. Two hospital workers were seriously injured. Burhan Al-Burai was hit by a bullet which penetrated his skull and exited on the other side. Burhan has been transferred to Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City for intensive care. The other worker, Jibril Abed, was hit in his chest.
The hospital sustained severe damage to the administration building and to the main water tank.
This morning's incident in Gaza was merely the latest step by Israeli Prime Minister Sharon in what is anticipated to be a build up to Israeli full-scale occupation of the Gaza Strip.
