American Indian Homelands: Matters of truth, honor and dignity-immemorial

This 2006 Telly Award winning documentary powerfully highlights efforts to redress more than a century's worth of legal and political moves undermining Indian land ownership and sovereignty, going back to the 1887 General Allotment Act.

The people featured in the documentary tell emotional stories of loss and frustration, of bureaucracy run amok and an uncaring system that seems designed to dispossess them. They represent American Indian nations as geographically and culturally distinct as the Sicangu Lakota, Three Affiliated Tribes of North Dakota, Apache Tribe of Oklahoma, Citizen Potawatomi Nation and Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe.

The program is hosted and narrated by noted and respected ABC News correspondent and former Evening News and Prime Time Live anchor, Sam Donaldson, and also features appearances by Senator John McCain (R-AZ) and former Senator Tom Daschle (D-SD). The program addresses land tenure issues critical to the future well-being of American Indians throughout the country. The program was executive produced, directed and written by three-time Emmy-nominated producer, Barry ZeVan.
