Lebanon Emergency
Many people have contacted the UN Refugee Agency to ask if we have actually been able to get aid to those who need it in Lebanon. The answer is yes. For a few days, our convoys were idle on the Lebanese border with Syria because the supply routes by road were cut off, and we had to change strategies and supplies began arriving by air. Then, as temporary river crossings were established, the trucks could roll again.
Now that there has been a ceasefire in place for a few days, supplies are getting into Lebanon regularly, following returning Lebanese from Syria. Read more about the Lebanon emergency on the UNHCR Canada page.
Darfur Update
The thousands of Sudanese who are living in the desert are no longer front page news, but their needs are great, and the UN Refugee Agency is there to provide ongoing assistance and to ensure their safety. Visit the Chad/Darfur Emergency page on the UNHCR International website to view several videos documenting the work of the UN Refugee Agency in this ongoing humanitarian crisis.
