3)Imagine the sceneraio: One day a man accompanied by an army pitches a tent in your garden. If you protest, which of course you do, you will be shot. So the man builds a house. The army says that in order to protect this man and his family, they will construct a military base beside his house. You are powerless to stop them. You have fruit trees in your garden. The man and his family start to pick the fruit. When you try to go to pick the fruit, the man and his family threaten you with their guns. Meanwhile the well in your garden from which your family have taken water for generations has been polluted by the invading familiy's sewage. They could have piped the sewage elsewhere, but they want you to leave your home, so they have deliberately polluted it. You have to buy your water from this familiy's government instead. It is increasingly difficult for you to survive on this land, your home.

So colonialism continues into the twenty-first century. Palestinians describe the Israeli settlements in the occupied territories as a cancer - insidious and deadly. The web of settlements, military bases and the network of new roads built for the settlers (which Palestinians are not allowed to use, except by special permission) are strangling the agricultural landscape of Palestine. The Zionist dream of 'taking every hilltop' is fast becoming a reality. There are few places in the West Bank where a hilltop settlement is not in view.
