Then came the order to start walking again. We crossed the roundabout in the direction of a badly damaged UN-building. An army vehicle with an Israeli officer approached us. He asked us, what the militiamen intended to do with us. We told him, that we had been taken out of Gaza hospital and that the militiamen were taking us with them. The Israeli asked the "officer" what they intended to do with us. The "officer" told the Israeli to mind his own business. One of the Norwegian doctors told the Israeli officer to go and get help. "Don't worry", he answered. When the "officer" heard this, he said, loud enough for everybody to hear: "Don't think he will remember you, you won't see him back again."
After crossing the roundabout we were led to a courtyard behind the UN-building. There was broken glass and rubble, the walls pockmarked with shrapnel holes. It seemed like a good place for an execution. New faces awaited us. The Phalangists appeared to have some kind of commandpost there. We were told to sit down and hand in our passports. They asked us, who among us spoke French. Several of us did. And then again the question if we knew we were working in a "terrorist hospital". We replied truthfully, that we also worked in Lebanese government hospitals in Zahle (Christian), Saida and Baalbek. They were surprised to hear this and also, that we worked for the MECC. Then they began to preach about murderous and bloodthirsty Palestinians and about the justness of the Phalangists.
