Gland, Switzerland, 13 March (IUCN) - The 3rd World Water Forum will be held in Kyoto, Osaka and Shiga (Japan) from 16 - 23 March to give a major boost to worldwide actions for sustainable water management. IUCN - The World Conservation Union, using its global experience in field projects and policy formulation, will be present with 18 experts to advise governments and non-governmental organizations on key issues.
"The dire situation of water the world over requires coalitions within river basins to work together for clean water, healthy ecosystems and development. We know the principles for sustainable water management, and this conference must lead to actions and investments to make those reality", says Dr. Ger Bergkamp, Coordinator of the IUCN Water and Nature Initiative.
The Forum consists of over 400 technical workshops organized by governments and non-governmental organizations, as well as a Ministerial Conference where ministers from over 120 countries will agree to a statement and a blueprint for action. The decisions at the Forum are instrumental to improve the current course for disaster in the way we deal with water.
