The Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem Michel Sabbah was prevented from attending the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue in Rome, last week, due to a “security” search by Israeli officials at Tel Aviv Airport.Since he travels under a Vatican City Diplomatic Passport, the search was in clear violation of recognised International Law. Sources of the Patriarchate told ZENIT that the Israeli security services not only obliged the patriarch to open his suitcases to inspect what he was carrying, but they also tried to search through his personal documents.
