The A.N.S.W.E.R. coalition organizers are encouraged by the tremendous international support for the Oct. 26 March on Washington to Stop the War on Iraq Before It Starts.
As of Oct. 19, A.N.S.W.E.R. knows of major demonstrations called in at least 10 countries—to coincide with or otherwise work in tandem with the U.S. demonstrations, as well as other actions already planned around the same time to oppose a war on Iraq.
In Puerto Rico, groups that are pro-independence and those who want to stop the U.S. Navy’s use of the island of Vieques as a bomb-testing site have called for an Oct. 26 action in San Juan.
In Mexico City the Palestine Solidarity Coordination, the Civil Society Network and the Anti-War Coalition are meeting near the U.S. Embassy at noon, where they will deliver a “Not in Our Name, Mexico” petition to the U.S. government signed by hundreds of Mexicans, many of them well-known.
In Japan, the movement plans to use its traditional anti-war day of Oct. 21 to organize demonstrations in connection with the U.S. initiatives. On that day there will be demonstrations in six major cities - Tokyo, Osaka, Sendai, Hiroshima, Fukuoka, and Okinawa - to oppose U.S. aggression against Iraq.
