An Ecumenical Peace Pilgrimage will take place in Israel – Palestine from 8 to 15 April 2002. Christian churches of Jerusalem have combined with Israeli and Palestinian peace and human rights groups to invite participants in an expression of solidarity for:
- Justice for the Palestinian people in their own State, free of occupation;
- Security for the people of Israel without threats and fear;
- Respect for Human Rights of all citizens and a future in equality open to the possibility of pardon,
The main organisers of the Pilgrimage are Pax Christi International, the International Fellowship of Reconciliation and “Church and Peace,” a network of non-violent communities.
The pilgrims believe in the sanctity of all human life as it is expressed in the Jewish, Christian and Islamic faiths and in the vocation of all humans to overcome violence through the power of truth, love and forgiveness. They are convinced that active non-violence is the only power capable of building
lasting peace.
The pilgrimage will be a sign of solidarity, encouragement and hope for all those who through prayer and action are patiently, and often with great sacrifices, promoting peace for both Palestinians and Israelis.
