OIC Urges Objective Western Media

The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) urged Thursday, April 26, Western media to be objective in covering Muslim news and help develop tolerance and mutual understanding between the Muslim world and the West.

"The media must dispel the myth that terrorism and Islam are identical concepts," OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu said at the opening of a conference on the media in the Azerbaijani capital Baku.

Ihsanoglu, in a speech posted Friday, April 27, on the website of the pan-Muslim body, admitted that Islam has been hijacked by a minority of extremists and terrorists, who exploit it.

But he warned that the misrepresentation of Islam "adds fuel to the fire" of Muslim discontent with the West. PLEASE READ:
