Many police were stationed outside the U.N. today, in response to an anonymous 911 call. The caller claimed that a taxi loaded with two backpacks filled with explosives was set to arrive in front of the U.N around 9 or 10 am this morning.
Police and U.N. security were checking all bags at the gates, in addition to the usual security check stations inside the building; however, the explanation for this increased security was not released until approximately 4 hours after the threat was considered to be a false one.
The U.N. building was neither evacuated nor was it closed to the public.
