Saddam Deputy Hanged on War Anniversary

BAGHDAD — The US-backed Iraqi government decided to mark the fourth anniversary of the Anglo-American invasion on Tuesday, March 20, by hanging former Vice President Taha Yassin Ramadan.

"Ramadan was hanged at 3:05 am (0005 GMT) today", Bassem Ridha, a senior advisor to Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, was quoted as saying by Agence France-Presse (AFP).

Ramadan's son, Ahmed, denounced the execution.

"It was not an execution. It was a political assassination", he told Al-Jazeera news channel by phone from the Yemeni capital Sanaa. (MORE)
