Deadly Beirut Clashes, Restraint Calls

In a scene reminiscent of the 1975-1990 civil war, Beirut turned into a battlefield on Thursday, January 25, with four people killed and dozens injured in bloody clashes between supporters of rival political factions, overshadowing a $7.6 billion aid pledge by international donors to the West-backed government.

Two opposition students of Beirut Arab University and two other people were shot dead and 100 were injured, many by gunfire, security sources told Reuters.
Fighting started between students with sticks and stones on the university campus then spilled into nearby streets. (MORE)
