New York City
Following a vote by the UN Security Council in Geneva in favor of sending a fact-finding mission to Occupied Palestinian Territory to investigate the Israeli military action in Beit Hanoun, the General Assembly at United Nations Headquarters resumed the 10th Emergency Special Session on Illegal Israeli Actions in Occupied East Jerusalem and the Rest of the Occupied Palestinian Territory on November 17, 2006.
To be certain, the Palestinian question is fully charged. Pouring more juice down the live wire in his statement before the U.N. General Assembly, the Honorable John R. Bolton stated “We believe that the United Nations is ill served when its members seek to transform the organization into a forum that is little more than a self-serving and polemical attack against Israel or the United States.”
It would appear the U.S is losing its power of influence, causing Bolton to stiffly shift into old, rusty Plan B mode - attacking the credibility of the United Nations and re-iterating that the United States will vote against this resolution (again). Not only is this plan deeply archaic. It is completely tragic.
Delivering his closing statement, Ambassador Bolton left the General Assembly with a question that he quite possibly fears the answer to - “Do we desire a viable United Nations system, composed of agencies respected for their role in conflict resolution, human rights, economic development, education and culture, or will we continue to acquiesce to a narrow agenda of bias, stalemate, and polemics?”
