Israel/ Lebanon: Cluster Bombs Intensified With War End; UN

2006-08-31

UNITED NATIONS — The United Nations accused Israel on Wednesday, August 30, of carpeting southern Lebanon with thousands of unexploded bombs in the final hours of its month-long war, when the stage was being set for a ceasefire.

"What's shocking and I would say completely immoral is that 90 percent of the cluster bomb strikes occurred in the last 72 hours of the conflict when we knew there would be a resolution, when we knew there would be an end," UN relief coordinator Jan Egeland was quoted as saying by Agence France-Presse (AFP).
"Every day, people are maimed, wounded and are killed by these ordnances," he lamented. http://www.islamonline.net/English/News/2006-08/31/01.shtml
