Discover the Secretive World of Lobbying in Brussels through New Website

Lobby watchdog Corporate Europe Observatory has today launched
http://www.eulobbytours.org , a new website featuring a virtual tour of the
EU Quarter of Brussels.
[1]

Corporate Europe Observatory has run walking tours of the EU quarter in Brussels for several years. The virtual tour allows anyone with internet access to do the next best thing. Using advanced 3D modelling, the virtual tour and interactive map take visitors into the sights of the EU quarter in Brussels. Accompanying text demonstrates the money and influence shaping EU legislation.

The tour comprises different types of lobbying hotspots including the
institutions being lobbied, industry associations, in-house corporate lobby groups, multinational lobbying firms, industry funded think tanks, dubious fora for industry and parliamentarians to meet, lobbying law firms and last but by no means least, the lobbyists who represent the lobbyists themselves.

Owen Espley of Corporate Europe Observatory said "The world of industry lobbying is normally hidden from view. The virtual lobby tour offers everybody the chance to enter the secret world of corporate politics and gain an insight into how up to a billion euros a year is being spent to influence legislation in the interests of big business to the detriment of people and the environment."

Erik Wesselius of Corporate Europe Observatory said: "By opening a window on big business lobbying, the need for mandatory lobbying disclosure and an end to overly close relations between big business and the EU institutions becomes obvious. The time for much greater transparency around lobbying at the EU has come."
