The Monetarist values that have seized the world’s financial institutions are a far cry from the ideals which first shaped them. Like the United Nations, those ideals began in the aftermath of the of the Second World War, when everyone realised that there must be international institutions, safeguarding international affairs, if nations and individuals are to be free.
