In what seemed a victory for economic human rights, African American farmers thought justice would be finally served when they settled an historic class-action lawsuit in 1999 against the USDA for systematic discrimination of government loans. (Please click photo for clarity.)
According to a new report by the Environmental Working Group, the USDA is refusing to pay up to 90 percent of the African American farmers the $2.4 billion court settlement they were promised, and even sought the help of Justice Department lawyers to fight aggressively against the farmer's claims.
